Seniors
You made it!!! Your hard work and effort has brought you to this, the final year of your high school career. Please use all available resources – parents, guardians, family members, teachers, counselors, friends, college admission representatives, etc. -to help you successfully navigate this year. As a soon to be graduate, it is also time to step up and take control of your future and progress toward your goals and dreams.

Recommendation Request Form
The Recommendation Request Form is to be filled out by seniors needing a letter of recommendation from one or more staff members for college admission or scholarship applications. Two weeks advance notice is strongly recommended, as staff members have many responsibilities and time commitments to manage.
SAT and ACT Testing:
Students planning on attending a four year college or university should plan on taking the ACT or SAT in the spring of their Junior Year. Students can re-take the SAT/ACT in the Fall of Senior Year if necessary.

College Visits:
Colleges visit CHS throughout the year during Tutorial and lunch. Listen for upcoming visits in the announcements and take advantage of these opportunities!

Scholarships:
Local senior scholarship packets and Universal Scholarship Applications are available in your Google Classroom and will be updated throughout the year. It is the student's responsibility to check e-mail and Google Classroom frequently to avoid missing important scholarship information and announcements.
Families
Students are best supported when the student, teachers/staff and parents/guardians are all working together. To that end, parent/guardian input and questions are both welcomed and encouraged.
If your student is struggling in one or more classes, it is important to consider the following and compare notes between the student’s report and teacher’s observations:
- How often is the student turning in work on time?
- Does the student have missing assignments?
- If the student doesn’t understanding an assignment, is the student seeking help from the teacher before/after school or during break?
- How much effort is the student putting into his/her work?
- If the teacher gives students the opportunity to retake tests or rewrite papers, is the student taking advantage of those opportunities?
- Does the student consistently follow directions when completing assignments, ensuring that all requirements are met to achieve the best grade possible?
Speaking with your student about the above, then connecting with the teacher(s) and getting the teacher’s input are important first steps in identifying potential strategies to help your student be more successful!
To contact your student’s teacher(s), login to Skyward Family Access, then click on Gradebook, and then click on the teacher’s name next to the class you want to inquire about. A window to send an email to that teacher will open. Contact information is also available on the district directory.

I would like to talk to a counselor about a personal issue. How do I do that?
Please visit Mrs. Stone in the counseling office and let her know you'd like to talk to your counselor about a personal issue. If it is an urgent personal issue and you need a same day appointment with a counselor, please tell Mrs. Stone it's urgent so that we can ensure you are able to talk to a counselor as soon as possible. Please be advised that counseling appointments (personal, mental health, college, and career) take priority over schedule change requests.
I would like to talk to a counselor about my career or college plans. How do I do that?
Please visit Mrs. Stone in the office to set up an appointment with your counselor. You may also make an appointment by emailing your counselor. Please be advised that counseling appointments (personal, mental health, college, and career) take priority over schedule change requests.
I heard CHS cares about mental health. What's that about?
CHS absolutely cares about the mental, physical and emotional well being of our school community. We are also proactively working with our community on suicide prevention. Beginning in the 2019-20 school year, CHS is joining forces with the Forefront Suicide Prevention Program through the University of Washington. Your counselor will also be working with students during Wolf Prep on the Forefront Suicide Prevention Program. Does CHS have a College and Career Fair?
Yes, we do! The 2022 College and Career Fair is on November 22nd. Our College and Career Fairs are held during the school day so that all students can attend. See your counselor for more information.
School has started and I have a question or concern about a specific class. How do I resolve that?
The best way is to contact the teacher of that class directly. You may contact teachers through phone or email. To be transferred to a teachers voicemail, please call the main office at 360-678-2400.
I would like to sign up for the ACT or SAT. How do I do that?
You may sign up for the SAT through College Board.

Scheduling:
I am in 9th grade. Why don't I see English on my schedule?
In 9th grade, English is either a first semester or second semester class, it is not a year long class. If you have Art, Crafts, Music Production, or Welding first semester, English will be your second semester course.
I am in 9th grade. Why didn't I get my first choice of electives?
When registering for classes, seniors take first priority for electives, followed by juniors, sophomores, and freshman. If you didn't get your first choice of electives, it's because that class was already full, didn't align with your graduation requirements, or didn't fit with your other classes. If you aren't satisfied with your electives, you will have another opportunity to take your preferred electives next year.
I would like a free period, late arrival, or early dismissal. How do I make that happen?
Late Arrivals and Early Dismissals are for seniors only, and seniors must have all of their graduation requirements met for this option. Seniors are approved on a case by case basis.
I am an 11th or or 12th grader and I would like to be a Teachers Aid or Office Aid. How do I make that happen?
You may pick up a Student Aid contract or Office Aid contract in the counseling office. Office Aids are accepted on a case by case basis. Student Aid agreements are made between the student and a teacher, and are initiated by the student.
I don't want to take Spanish. How do I take another language?
Spanish is the World Language we offer at CHS, and you are encouraged to take Spanish. If you choose to take a separate online class for a language other than Spanish, at your expense and on your own time, and you would like to earn high school credit for that course, you may pick up an Independent Study sheet in the counseling office and make an appointment to speak with Mr. Kappes for approval. High school credit is only issued for transcripts from accredited language programs and on a case by case basis. The counseling office does not assist students with signing up or paying for language classes through separate online programs or provide recommendations of online language programs.
I would like to talk to someone about my schedule. How do I do that?
