Much of the school was built between the 1960s and 1990s, and major systems have reached the end of their useful life. The heating and ventilation system is failing, making it difficult to keep classrooms comfortable and maintain good indoor air quality. There is no air conditioning. Roof leaks have caused water to enter classrooms, disrupting learning and creating concerns about mold and building damage.
The school's electrical system is also outdated, and the main transformer has no available replacement parts, creating a risk that the entire campus could lose power. The campus is spread across several separate buildings and portable classrooms, requiring young students to move outdoors between buildings during the school day. This layout creates safety, security, and supervision challenges.
The school also has significant accessibility barriers, including narrow doorways, uneven walkways, inaccessible restrooms, and a lack of automatic doors, making it difficult for students, staff, and visitors with disabilities to fully access the campus.
