King Resignation Letter

  • January 4, 2024

Dear Coupeville School District Board of Directors,

After a great deal of reflection, I am writing this letter as a formal notification of my resignation as Superintendent at the end of the current contract year. This would make my last official contract day June 30, 2024

When I came to the district in the summer of 2018 there was great alignment between my core values and the expectations of the job of Coupeville Superintendent.  No one could have predicted the incredible amount of change that would happen in our world and in Coupeville during my tenure.  This time of uncertainty and constant change has taken a toll on my health and wellbeing.  In reflecting on all the change that has occurred, it is clear that the alignment, unity, and sense of purpose I felt when I took this position has diminished to the point that I need to step away.

While these past several years have been extremely challenging, I would like to express my gratitude to the entire Coupeville school community for the support extended to me and the school district throughout my time here. I have had the privilege of working with amazing staff members, school board directors, supportive community members, and our amazing Coupeville students.   I am proud of the many things we have accomplished together.

I am providing this early notification so that you have time to make a successful transition to a new Superintendent for the school district.  During these next few months I am committed to ensuring a smooth transition as well as providing any necessary support to the board, leadership team, and staff to maintain continuity and uphold the high standards of excellence our district is known for.

As I announce my resignation, I want everyone to know that I am extremely thankful for the time I have been able to serve and live in this amazing place.  Over the next few months, I will cherish every encounter with our students, staff members, and community members.  I am confident that the dedication and hard work of the staff, faculty, and administration with governance from our school board will continue to drive the district toward even greater successes in the future.

    Sincerely,

    Steve King
