Christine Sears

Christine Sears was appointed to director district 1 in April 2014, replacing Don Sherman. She was re-elected in 2015. She is a retired school counselor and retired from Coupeville Middle & High School at the end of the 2010-2011 school year. She is an active volunteer in the central Whidbey community.  Her term expires in 2023.

Glenda Merwine

Glenda Merwine was appointed to the board in January 2013, replacing Carol Bishop following her resignation. She was elected in November of 2013 to finish out the term, and then re-elected in 2015. Mrs. Merwine was the Coupeville Elementary School principal for five years and served as the district’s Director of Student Learning for two years. She currently supervises student teachers for Seattle Pacific University and the University of Phoenix. Glenda is also a leadership coach for the Association of Washington School Principals; her term expires 2023.

Sherry Phay

Raised in the Pacific Northwest, Sherry Phay has been a Whidbey Island resident for over 8 years after her family built their forever home in Greenbank.  With two daughters in the Coupeville School District, Sherry is a stay at home mom and Registered Nurse working at both Whidbey Health and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner and Bone Marrow/Stem Cell Transplant nurse respectively.  In her free time, Sherry, volunteers in her community, is a competitive Powerlifter, and prioritizes time with her husband, Jon, and their daughters Sofia and Brenna and their rescue dogs Jake and Jasper.

Morgan White

Morgan White was elected in 2021 and is serving her first term on the board.  She is a long time Coupeville resident and a graduate of Coupeville High School. Morgan studied web design and graphic art at the Art Institute of Pittsburg.  She is a United States Air Force veteran, a small business owner, and an active volunteer in the school district.  Morgan and her husband have one child attending Coupeville Middle School and one child at Coupeville High School.  You will likely see her if you frequent Coupeville sporting events. She spends an incredible amount of time shuttling kids to extracurricular activities, and helping with drama, Young Life, and Math Olympiad. 

Board Goals

  • 1. Represent the community in providing a vision for public education in the Coupeville School District.

    2. Align board policies and decisions with the district’s Continuous Improvement Plan and state and federal law.

    3. Demonstrate a commitment to learning and public education.
